Press Release: Poparide celebrates one million members and sets new ambitious goals
Vancouver, Apr 23, 2024 – Poparide, Canada’s biggest carpooling platform, today celebrates reaching one million members by releasing its impact data in a new e-book and setting out to fill one million empty seats per year by 2025.
Poparide provides a city-to-city carpooling app in Canada that connects drivers with passengers heading in the same direction. This way, drivers get to set off an average of $30 per 100km of their cost, which allows passengers to travel for roughly $17 per 100km. With an average vehicle occupancy of 3.15 people per trip, Poparide’s members benefit from 40-70% lower emissions and two human connections each.
In 2023, Poparide saved Canadians over $10 million in transportation costs, fostered over 660,000 human connections, and prevented the emission of over 12,300 metric tonnes of CO2—equivalent to the annual emissions of a community of 3,500 people.

With this momentum, Poparide is also driving the conversation toward adopting shared mobility and making a difference in the here and now by releasing its openly available e-book today. Entitled “Carpooling is for everyone – Towards a more affordable, sustainable, and social intercity transportation network for all” it provides data on Poparide’s national impact and insights on how carpooling fills gaps in regional areas underserved by transit.
“When we built the first version of Poparide in 2010, a website for local skiers to share rides, I had no idea that it would one day help tens of thousands of people get around in thousands of communities across the country” says Devellennes.
Next, toward its one million seats filled per year by the end of 2025 goal, Poparide is investing into its community, reliability, and safety to improve its overall quality of service, appeal to new customer segments, and develop new routes in Canada. Or as Devellennes put it “Let’s bring people together wherever they need to go.”
