Unfortunately, this was not a good experience.
While the driver was communicative, the overall journey was delayed by at least 45 minutes. What made things worse was that during the ride, he repeatedly pressured me for a good review in a very uncomfortable and intrusive way.
There were two pickup locations listed, and I had messaged him in advance to confirm where I would join. He acknowledged this and admitted that the second pickup location—one of the most common in downtown Montreal—was added by mistake. Still, he agreed to pick me up from there. However, he arrived 20 minutes late, despite saying he was on his way when I called. I still appreciated that he came to pick me up.
To my surprise, once I got in the car, he told me he needed to “grab at least two more passengers” and began trying to recruit random people from the street for the Montreal–Ottawa trip. Another passenger and I were left waiting in the car for at least 25 more minutes. This was despite me clearly expressing that I had a time commitment in Ottawa. As far as I understand, this kind of passenger pickup is not allowed on Poparide.
Ultimately, he didn’t find any new passengers and we departed 45 minutes late. During the trip, he stopped for a break and came over to chat, again pressuring me for a positive review. He seemed unaware of basic social cues or boundaries—at one point asking, “Why aren’t you talking now? You were talking more when you called me earlier.” He also offered unrelated favors like helping me sell a car, which felt quite inappropriate and continued even after the trip ended.
Frankly, I felt relieved when he finally left.
In summary, this driver needs to understand that in Canada, passengers expect comfort, privacy, punctuality, and above all, a minimum level of professionalism.
